PDF : compatibility
1. What software should I use to view PDF files on Strada lex?
The certification technology for PDF files can only run on Adobe Reader software Version 7 or higher.
You should however, note that the new version of Adobe Reader (Version X) no longer allows search terms to be highlighted in PDF files like the previous versions.
We therefore recommend that you use Version 9 of the Adobe Reader software. This is available for Windows, MacOS X and Linux operating systems, and can be downloaded free of charge from the Adobe site : http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions.
2. I have installed the latest version of Adobe Reader, but the PDF files do not display in the Strada lex window. Why?
Check that the Adobe Reader option 'Preferences / Internet / View in browser' has been enabled. To access this setting, launch Adobe Reader, select Edit / Preferences, and choose the Internet section from the list on the left. Confirm with OK.

3. After conducting a search on Strada lex, will the search terms be highlighted when I view the PDF file?
Yes. If this does not happen, you should check that the Adobe Reader option 'Preferences / Search / Enable Search Term Highlighting from an External Server' is ticked. To access this setting, launch Adobe Reader, select the Edition/Preferences menu, and select the Search heading from the list on the left hand side. Confirm with OK.
Please note that this option is no longer available for Adobe Reader from Version X upwards.
Once the terms are highlighted, it is easy to move from one case to another using the two specific buttons on the Adobe Reader toolbar.
PDF : Certification
1. What does the blue ribbon that Adobe Reader displays stand for?
This ribbon appears when Adobe Reader software opens a PDF file with a digital certificate.
The content displayed on this ribbon shows the name of the company that has published the content, as well as the name of the certifying authority, i.e. the body who issued the certificate to the publisher.
2. Can you hide the blue ribbon?
Yes. Just click on the icon in the shape of a seal, which is located on the left. If you click on this icon again, the ribbon will re-appear.
3. Why does the blue ribbon indicate that the 'Validity of the document certification'
is “UNKNOWN” and that “The Author Cannot Be Authenticated”? What can I do ?
This means that Adobe Reader does not yet recognise our certificate, or the certifying authority who issued it. This authority is Thawte, a firm that has been active in the certification domain since 1995 and has been a member of the VeriSign Inc. Group since 2000.http://www.thawte.com/.
To avoid seeing this message in future, simply add the certificate to the identities approved by your Adobe Reader software. Click on the 'Signatures Panel' button on the right of the blue ribbon. Once you are in this panel, open the section entitled 'Details of the Signature' and then click on 'Certificate Details'. The window that opens includes an 'Approval' tab, with a button marked 'Add to Approved Identities'. Then click on 'OK', ignoring the warning displayed by Adobe Reader. In the next window that appears, tick 'Use this certificate as a trusted root' and 'Certify Documents' and then confirm by clicking on 'OK'. Then close the 'Signatures Panel' by clicking on 'OK'. Afterwards, certified documents will open with a normal reference in the blue ribbon.
Tip :you can also approve the 'Thawte Code Signature' certificate instead of the 'Group De Boeck SA-NV' certificate. In effect, this implicitly approves the latter certificate and all other certificates issued by this certification authority. To do this, proceed as described above but make sure that you select the certificate located at an intermediate level in the branches of the tree of certificates displayed on the left when you open the 'Certificate Details' window.
4. Why are the PDF files published on Strada lex certified by the publisher from now on?
This certification guarantees users that neither the content nor form of the documents have been altered since they were published. Indeed, any intentional or unintentional changes to the characteristics of the PDF file effectively render it invalid, or make the certification disappear.
